International Visitors

A MESSAGE TO OUR INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITORS & ATTENDEES:

U.S. Visas are issued by American consular officials according to the requirements of the Immigration and Nationality Act.  Some consulates receive hundreds of visa applications each week.  Federal regulations now require more thorough visa processing than previously.  Security checks are required for most visitor visas, resulting in a process that may take three months or more from the time of the visa application.  Citizens of certain countries must have an invitation in hand before they can obtain a passport from their government and then apply for a U.S. entry visa.

Letters of invitation can only state those things about the applicant that the signer of the letter can verify. Therefore if you are requesting a letter of invitation we ask that you include the following information:

Name, dates, location and purpose for attending or exhibiting at the requested event.
Name, date of birth, and passport number (if known) of the attendee.
Information on how transportation and local expenses are to be funded.

Tips for Successful Visa Applications

Visa applicants are expected to provide evidence that they are intending to return to their country of residence.  Therefore applicants should provide proof of binding or sufficient ties to their residence abroad. This includes documentation of:

Family ties in home country or country of legal permanent residence
Property ownership
Bank accounts
Employment contract or statement from employer showing that position will continue after the visit to the United States.
Visa applications are more likely to be successful if done in a visitor’s home country than in a third country
Applicants should present their entire trip itinerary, including travel to any countries other than the United States, at the time of their visa application
Include a letter of invitation from the show organizer of the U.S. host, specifying the subject location and dates of the activity and how travel and local expenses will be covered
If completion of travel plans is contingent upon early approval of the visa application, specify this at the time of the application.

Remember, apply for your visa as early as possible, at least three months before it is needed.  Contact the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy for details on visa application procedures at that post.
